Shakespeare's vision of Narcissus and Echo has come to end, and we see that he's been looking at his reflection this whole time. The last thing he sees are the closing verses of Golding's translation... a tear falls into the water and disturbs his reflection, and on the following page we'll see how that morphs into the first sonnet.
